Audubon Mid-Atlantic uses The Discovery Center as a facility for research and science-based conservation projects and educational programs throughout the Philadelphia region. Audubon engages individuals and communities by offering the resources and tools necessary to analyze, preserve and restore our natural environment. Their education programs challenge both young people and adults through hands-on exploration of the natural world in their own backyards and neighborhoods. The Discovery Center also allows visitors to connect to Audubon's national and international conservation initiatives, serving as a major migratory stopover on the Atlantic Flyway for over 100 species of birds and as a premier destination for bird watching throughout the region.

The Discovery Center serves as the base of operations for the Philadelphia Outward Bound School, the premier provider of experience-based outdoor leadership programs for youth and adults. 

The Philadelphia Outward Bound School holds courses at The Discovery Center for students from over 70 public, charter and private schools in the Philadelphia area and serves thousands of students annually.

In addition to student programming, the Philadelphia Outward Bound School also hosts Community Days on select weekends throughout the year to welcome neighbors and community members to The Discovery Center to experience zip-lining, canoeing, rock climbing, and other activities, all at no cost.

This groundbreaking venture is a national model for partnership and collaboration, reaching more than 15,000 students per year. The Center protects a unique habitat rarely found in a major urban area and provides education and adventure programs that inspire self-discovery, foster personal achievement, and build community across Philadelphia.
