Meg moved to Philadelphia from Arizona in 1991 to attend graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania. After completing a PhD in Comparative Literature in 1996, her love for the city and passion for making things better drew her to the nonprofit sector. In 2011 she was named Executive Director of Smith Memorial Playground and Playhouse. Prior to Smith, Meg held leadership roles at the Fleisher Art Memorial, the Philadelphia Education Fund, and The Philadelphia Foundation.
Dan joined the Philadelphia Outward Bound School (POBS) in 2001 as an expedition instructor. His experiential education began at Outward Bound as a student in 1990. After college, Dan worked as a program coordinator for the YMCA, as a Behavioral Therapist and Secondary Special Education Teacher at the Bancroft School, and taught outdoor leadership and environmental science at Rowan University. As an outdoor professional he has received certifications as an Emergency Medical Technician, an American Mountain Guide, Wilderness First Responder, and an American Canoe Association Instructor. Under Dan’s leadership over the last 17 years, POBS has grown to safely serve more than 6,000 participants each year.
As the Advancement Director at the Philadelphia Outward Bound School, Karyn is eager to help develop a love of the natural world for thousands of students in the region. Prior to joining POBS in June 2017, Karyn served the arts and culture sector for 20 years, most recently as an independent management and fundraising consultant. Karyn received her MFA in Theatre Management from the Yale School of Drama and her BA in English from Barnard College.
