Join Audubon Mid-Atlantic as we host a screening of the Documentary “Bird Walk.”
At RedGate Park in Rockville, Maryland, the fairways and greens, once meticulously groomed when the site was a public golf course, are now inhabited by tall marsh grasses, dead river birch trees, overgrown shrubs, and 170 bird species. Amazed at the number of birds sighted at the park and alarmed that Rockville's mayor and city council were considering building housing on the city-owned land, birders and local residents mobilized to prevent development on the defunct golf course. Bird Walk focuses on the birds and birdwatchers who have flocked to this 131-acre site, and on the citizen campaign which lobbied to preserve this open space as a public park.
And we will be joined, via ZOOM, with Director and Filmmaker Cintia Cabib to answer your questions about the documentary!

We’ll also be joined by Save the Meadows. Save the Meadows (STM) is a grassroots coalition opposing the privatization and destruction of South Philly’s largest urban woodland in FDR Park. Formed in July 2022, STM organized in response to the City’s flawed and unpopular plan to replace FDR's former golf course with pay-to-play tournament fields made of toxic artificial turf. The 175 acre former golf course rewilded during the pandemic and became cherished public green space. STM rejects the false choice between youth athletic fields and preserving vital green space—Philadelphia’s children deserve both. Over 70 acres have already been cut down, but 100 acres remain to be defended.
