The Strawberry Mansion Lake has been here for decades, let’s see what’s inside!
We're using DIY leaf packets to collect our aquatic insects, sampling in different spots along the edge of the reservoir. You'll learn how to identify what we find, and discuss how their presence can help us plan future habitat restoration. We are also partnering with LandHealth Institute to observe the fish in our lake and learn about city fishing! We'll gather fish to get a better view, and check out fishing tools needed for fishing in Philly. Admission to the program is free.
Join Audubon Mid-Atlantic in observing and documenting this aquatic ecosystem as the seasons change. Throughout the year, you can try our rotating, leader-led activities, as well as our self-led activities of viewing microscopic organisms and watercolor painting with lake water. Kid-friendly activities are also available: children binoculars for bird watching, scavenger hunts, and arts and crafts (adult supervision is needed). We also encourage taking a walk on our trail and waterwalk to learn more about our conservation projects! Reach out to audubon@discoveryphila.org if you have any questions.
