Philadelphia Outward Bound School

The Discovery Center serves as base of operations for the Philadelphia Outward Bound School, the premier provider of experience-based outdoor leadership programs for youth and adults. 

The Philadelphia Outward Bound School holds courses at The Discovery Center for students from over 70 public, charter and private schools in the Philadelphia area and serves thousands of students annually.

In addition to student programming, the Philadelphia Outward Bound School also hosts Community Days on select weekends throughout the year to welcome neighbors and community members to The Discovery Center to experience zip-lining, canoeing, rock climbing, and other activities, all at no cost.

The Discovery Center is a community-driven nature sanctuary, environmental education platform, and outdoor leadership base located in the East Fairmount Park neighborhood, just steps from Strawberry Mansion in Philadelphia.

The Discovery Center team ensures the grounds, rental spaces, and building are sustainably kept, while managing a collaborative effort with all organizations.

Audubon Mid-Atlantic

Audubon Mid-Atlantic is headquartered at The Discovery Center as a facility for research and science-based conservation projects and educational programs throughout the Philadelphia region. Audubon engages individuals and communities by offering the resources and tools necessary to analyze, preserve and restore our natural environment. Their education programs challenge both young people and adults through hands-on exploration of the natural world in their own backyards and neighborhoods. The Discovery Center also allows visitors to connect to Audubon's national and international conservation initiatives, serving as a major migratory stopover on the Atlantic Flyway for over 100 species of birds and as a premier destination for bird watching throughout the region.
